NoT My ChOcOlAtE!!

Just when you think everything is going ok life throws a curve ball. Ive just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

My fasting blood sugar was 14.8 mmol/L, my triglycerides were 5.4, my cholesterol was 4.5.  So that means I have mild hypercholesterolaemia and mild hypertriglyceridaemia.

A trip to the dentist led to a trip to the doctor and that led to a blood test because I am 40yrs now ( OMG so Old) So Now I have to attend a newly diagnosed with diabetes class to find out what I can eat and how to deal with it.

Well onto my food intake of the day.

Breakfast; 2 slices of light rye bread toasted 2  1/2 points, heinz salt reduced baked beans 55g 1 point, peeled tinned tomatoes 1/2 point, onion, garlic, 2 button mushrooms. 1 mug of tea using no fat milk.

Lunch; pizza consisting of 1 wholemeal pita pocket 2 1/2 points, thin spread of tomato paste with garlic, 1 spring onion diced, diced red capsicum, 1/2 a large tomato sliced, 1 slice of kraft singles 97% fat free cheese 1/2 point. 1 mug of tea using a small amount of fat free milk.

Tea; I am going to have chicken chasseur using skinless chicken legs, reduced salt chicken stock, garlic, mushrooms, onion, tinned tomatoes, tomato paste and mashed sweet potato with chickpeas. and 1 mug of tea using fat free milk.

1 good thing about the diabetes is that I am trying harder to lose weight and get fit. though the get fit thing is harder than the eat the right foods thing lol as I am tired alot of the time.

Boy that was some crappy news you got. I wish you luck and I am happy to see that you are doing something about it. I work with a lot of diabetics and it is sad to see what happens when they don’t take care of themselves. Just remeber to take care of yourself.

Sounds like you are on your way to a new healthier lifestyle. My father in law has a lot of your same health issues (high cholesterol and high blood sugar). He waited too long to go to the docs before being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He now has neuropathy in his legs and feet and he is miserable.
Good luck on your new weight loss journey. You will find LOTS of support here.

Sounds like you are going through a big transition at the moment. There are other buddies who have diabetes and may be willing to offer you extra support. Once you get the management part in place hopefully the exercising will get easier.
